Mohawk has a long history of traditions and surprises that campers continue to talk about for years! In addition to the incredible array of regular program activities, seasoned Mohawk campers know they can count on several special days throughout the season, plus a few new ones each year!
Among the long-standing favorites are the group Pow Wows that celebrate accomplishments and teach Native American lore, and M'Olympics, our own version of that famous event, where camp groups participate in sporting "events" and every child is a winner.
We can't forget the creative sparkle of crazy hats, crazy clothes, and special themes that make up Wacky Wednesdays. Or, it might be a Wet 'n' Wild Day puppet shows, minerals and dinosaur fossils, or a medieval acting troupe complete with costumes and castles. And our campus is a great place for scavenger and treasure hunts.
Of course, no camp season is complete without our two-day, end of season Carnival extravaganza filled with games, prizes and treats. In the weeks leading up to Carnival, campers are treated to skits performed by staff members that help build excitement for the coming event. A camp tradition is Big Chief Steve becoming "Mohawk Man," our own super hero who appears annually at Carnival time.
We culminate the season with a final Pow Wow, complete with Native American storytelling and dance, as well as a moving-up ceremony for each camp group.
